Today was a travel day so we packed up our stuff and departed from Susanville RV Park and again got on US-395 southbound. The road was good all the way to the Nevada border. After that, it gained some more lanes in each direction until it was 4 lanes each way through bustling downtown Reno. The road surface through this area must be assaulted by the elements because as US-395/I-580 passes through this old gambling and prostitution Mecca, the surface is downright lousy.
Soon, we passed through Reno and the number of lanes started to diminish until it was down to two between Reno and Carson City. I-580 craps out entirely at the north end of Carson City and from there south travelers are on city streets with many unsynchronized signals. We continued a few miles south to the zip code of Minden, NV. We pulled into the Silver City RV Resort which is actually an enormous RV parking lot with full hookups, wi-fi, cable TV, a pool and all the other amenities of a contemporary RV park. Unfortunately, the first spot management assigned us had a sewer hookup that was further from our trailer than we had hose to reach. That has never happened before in our 27 months of full-time RVing. We chatted with management and were re-assigned to a spot with a sewer connection still a long ways away but we had enough hose to reach.
Soon I was attempting to hook up the cable TV but found that the system here does not connect like cable TV in all other parks we visited before but, instead, requires a little box you can get from the front desk if you leave them a $75 deposit. Peggy went to the desk, got the stuff we needed and returned to the trailer so I could hook it up. It worked for about 10 minutes and then the screen went black on the TV, cutting off the last 40 minutes of the NASCAR Xfinity race. I then disconnected the park’s cable junk and put out our satellite receiver and got it to go through its signal finding sequence. Just as I finished this process the race ended. Maybe next time.
We will explore the area tomorrow. That will keep us from interrupting our cocktail period today.
