We consulted the campground hostess\nthis morning in an attempt to find the facility laundromat. It turns\nout that there are two laundry buildings within the La Conner Marina\nbut not inside our park. Today was our last full day in La Conner, at\nleast for this visit. We celebrated by doing the laundry which had\ngrown to leviathan proportions since we last hit the washateria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\tExcept for a brain fart by me that\nincreased our time commitment to this essential task, we were out of\nthe laundry by early afternoon. That is primarily because I didn’t\nhelp Peggy, who did most of the work. It turns out that having two\npeople on the chore, when I am one of them, does not increase\nefficiency nor reduce the amount of time required to finish. Funny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\tWe took a last little drive around La\nConner and over onto the Swinomish Reservation this afternoon. We\nspotted a big kiddie slide shaped like a giant salmon. We found a\nmassive pink steel single truss arch bridge. On the Swinomish side of\nthe channel we found some gorgeous places and buildings there\nalthough there is a little section down near the water where there\nare some ugly tribal reservation subsidized houses. Not many folks\nlive here but we could see they all liked their fireworks because\nthere were piles of empty fireworks packaging in big heaps, ready for\ntrash pickup. The streets were completely littered with little scraps\nof paper that used to be the casings of firecrackers. I’ll bet these\nfolks have more in their houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We picked up some inexpensive diesel on the Rez, probably due to their sovereign nature which eliminates pesky federal and state fuel taxes. We returned to our trailer late in the afternoon to find a group of three bright yellow goldfinches hanging out at our bird feeder. The goldfinch is the Washington State Bird and they are quite pretty guys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
